The Madison Soil and Water Conservation District was organized in January 1947, for the purpose of conserving and developing its natural resources through conservation best management practices.
The Madison Soil and Water Conservation District is administered by a board of five locally elected supervisors that live within Madison County. The major goals of Madison Soil and Water are to design and implement conservation programs that help conserve our natural resources. These goals are achieved by providing landowners with financial, technical, and educational assistance.
NEW HOURS!Please note that the Madison Soil and Water Conservation District office is now closed on Fridays due to financial reasons. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
How can you support the Soil and Water Conservation District? SWCDs get the majority of their funding from two sources, the County Commissioners and the State of Ohio. We are working closely with our representatives and they know the good work that we do together in this county. However, general revenues are down and we are not a "mandated" program. Now, more than ever, it is important to hear from our customers who have directly benefitted from our services. Please share YOUR story with our commissioners and legislators! Currently, the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Districts are working with the State Legislature to encourage an amendment to re-add the construction debris fee proposal for the SWCDs. Other options are also being discussed. Please consider sending your letter of support today!
Tree Seedling Sale 2010: Due to the low volume of orders we received, we are unable to place a tree seedling order with our supplier this year. If you are interested in purchasing tree seedlings, Franklin SWCD’s tree seedling sale is going on now through March 26th. For more information or to place an order, please visit www.franklinswcd.org. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Are you interested in preserving your farm forever? Would you like to sell or donate your development rights? The Clean Ohio Agricultural Easement Purchase Program (AEPP) may be for you.
The application involves a series of questions about the soil type, farming practices, surrounding land use as well as 5 essay questions. The farms with the highest scores are offered a price for their easement based on the score, not to exceed $2,000/acre and $500,000 total. Due to the highly competitive nature of applying, landowners who are interested in preserving their farmland may wish to contact ODA about the benefits of donating an agricultural easement instead.
The Madison County Commissioners have agreed to sponsor the applications of any landowner interested in selling their development rights. The Madison SWCD has agreed to help the landowner put together the application on behalf of the county commissioners. In order to meet ODA’s deadline, appointments may be made at the SWCD until April 5th. The office is closed on Fridays.
