Victim Witness Division
The criminal justice system is very often confusing and frustrating for the victims of a crime. The job of the victim advocate is to provide help through the criminal justice process by providing information on victims rights, to explain the process which occurs when a person is charged with a crime, to answer frequently asked questions about the criminal justice experience and to provide the victim with sources of additional information. She also acts as a support person to the victim, providing court escort, providing information on court hearing dates and times, helping with victim impact statements, assisting with property return, and making referrals to other agencies.
It is our belief that the victim is entitled to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect throughout the criminal justice process. The safety of the victim is a priority. Help is provided to victims of domestic violence in obtaining Temporary Protections Orders and Civil Protection Orders. Explanation of Victim's Compensation and application forms are provided to those who may qualify for same.
If you or someone you know needs advocacy assistance, please contact the Prosecutor's Office.
