Duct Tape Campaign

The WeCARE Coalition is focused on bringing awareness to the growing rate of depression and suicide among men in Madison County. Like many places in the U.S., Madison County is not immune to the increase of men between the ages of 19 and 76 experiencing depression, and in some cases, contemplating suicide.

Depression and suicide can affect any age group, income level, or anyone facing a challenge in their life. Adding to the problem is that men sometimes do not discuss their thoughts and feelings openly. Their reluctance to talk about their depression may lead to catastrophic results, including substance use and suicide.

WeCARE developed a Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program featuring former Madison County resident and disabled military veteran Zack Starr. Zack is also recovering from depression. He now works with other veterans to provide hope and encouragement to other injured veterans with depression.

WeCARE's Mental Health Wellness Committee is providing materials for this campaign including:

  • suicide fact sheets
  • information on QPR – Question, Persuade and Refer - a free evidence-based suicide prevention program for service clubs and other organizations or businesses
  • 8 ½ x 11” counter sign with easel
  • Additional information including a pop-up banner and 11”x17” posters are available upon request.

We need your help to get the word out in Madison County. It will not cost you anything except a little counter space near your cash register, front desk or a corner of a bulletin board. Together we can save lives!
