Overdose Awareness

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently signed Senate Bill 30, designating August 31st as Ohio Overdose Awareness Day.

In support of Ohio Overdose Awareness Day and Recovery Month this September – WeCARE is hosting overdose awareness and naloxone distribution events in Madison County. On August 31st, the coalition held an event that included resource tables from treatment providers and support , and free Narcan training and distribution to the community through Project DAWN. Attendees also decorated purple ribbons to show support of loved ones lost to overdose.

In addition to the event, the coalition remembered the lives lost and those affected by overdose. Seventy-three purple pinwheels were placed on the Madison County Courthouse lawn to represent the lives lost due to overdose in Madison County since 2009. Local agencies and businesses also showed support by displaying posters, ribbons, and wearing purple on Overdose Awareness day.

The coalition will continue providing support to the county by offering Narcan at the upcoming community conversations.
